State Engineer John D’Antonio will join a 2 p.m. press conference in Portales today to talk about the need to fund the Ute Water pipeline, a project diverting water from Ute Lake to communities across eastern New Mexico.
He’ll be joined by community leaders and state legislators.
It’s at the Yam Theater, 121 S. Main Ave., and is open to the public.
Today in history
On this day in 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter and his workmen discover a step leading to the tomb of King Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.
Thus began a monumental excavation process in which Carter carefully explored the four-room tomb over several years, uncovering an incredible collection of several thousand objects.
Here’s the rest of the story:
Today — Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower to mid 60s.
Tonight — Mostly clear. Lows in the 30s.
