Curry County has received a grant to help a Melrose resident remove tires from her property, according to a news release.

The environmental clean-up project will be funded by a $14,375 grant from the New Mexico Environment Department.

The Melrose resident, whose property is north of Melrose along Curry Road 19 and Curry Road AL, contacted the county to inform them that approximately 3,600 passenger tires, ranging from car to industrial size, have been dumped on their property.

The release said the first phase of the project is under way and should be competed in the next 30 days.
