ALAMOGORDO — The Curry County Cats left little doubt early on in their fourth win of the season.
The visiting Cats opened with 28 unanswered points in a 34-13 win on Saturday over the Alamogordo Desert Dawgs.
Quin Culiver threw for a pair of touchdowns after the Cats opened the scoring with first-quarter touchdown runs of 3 yards from John Props and 12 yards from Manuel Robles.
“We were missing a few guys this week,” Cats coach Paul Lopez said. “We had a couple of key players out. They couldn’t get off work with the game change.
“People stepped up and we got it done.”
The game was originally scheduled for Sunday.
Culiver completed scoring passes of 9 yards to Tyrone Gallegos in the second quarter and 48 yards to Jacob Jones in the third period.
“The defense played lights out again,” Lopez said. “We gave up a couple (of scores) at the end, but that was about it.”
Kendale Parker closed out the night with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown as time expired.
The Cats are on the road next Sunday, against the New Mexico Titans. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Del Norte High School in Albuquerque.
