Eastern New Mexico University is in the process of paring down a field of 55 candidates for the vacant women’s basketball program.
ENMU athletics director Jeff Geiser said Tuesday that a search committee will meet on Thursday to try to cut the list to about 10, at which point those candidates will be contacted to determine their interest in going ahead and seeking permission to contact references.
He said about three to five people will be brought in for on-campus interviews, probably during the week of April 4-8.
“By the end of next week, we want to have a list of finalists,” Geiser said. “We obviously have to move on this. It’s very important from a recruiting standpoint to get a coach in here.”
Recruits can be signed beginning April 13 in the late signing period.
Linden Weese, who went 41-95 in five seasons at the helm, resigned the position on March 1. His contract runs through May 31.
Geiser said the school hopes to name a new coach by April 15.
