The Clovis High School ProStart culinary team is headed to the New Mexico ProStart Invitational competition.

The competition will take place Wednesday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Team members are seniors Zeke Moreno-Rodriguez and Jasmin Mendez and juniors Ryan Sena and Emily Wickham.

CHS culinary and ProStart teacher Judy Uerling said the team of four has been practicing their three course meal since January.

For the competition, the culinary team has to create a three-course meal in 60 minutes while being observed by judges.

The team will be judged on their appearance, knife skills, the appearance and taste of the meal and on cleanliness both during and after the cooking portion.

This will be the first ProStart competition for each of the CHS team members but Uerling said that two are band members and one is on the football team so she’s not worried about them competing.

“I’m not nervous,” team leader Jasmin Mendez said. “I have confidence in us. I know we can do it.”
