A 20-year-old has been sentenced to life in prison in the March 2010 stabbing of a 21-year-old Clovis man.

Luciano Guerra was sentenced during a hearing late Tuesday afternoon, according to District Attorney Matt Chandler.

Convicted of first-degree murder by a Curry County jury in February, Guerra will be required to serve 30 years before he is eligible for parole under state statute.

Chandler said the sentencing was expected to take place later in the month but at the last minute during a hearing in the case, the judge decided to proceed with sentencing.

During the trial, prosecutors said Guerra stabbed Andrew Gama 13 times during what started as a fist fight at the Clovis Apartments.
