Muleshoe fire crews were working Tuesday night to contain a grass fire that closed U.S. 84 between Muleshoe and Sudan due to visibility issues from smoke.

Bailey County Judge Sherri Harrison said one business, Track Dairy, was threatened by the 3,000-acre fire, which was 60 percent contained as of 8:30 p.m. Central time.

The fire rekindled from earlier in the day, she said.

Crews from Amarillo and the Texas Forest Service are helping with the fire.

Motorists were being diverted to U.S. 70, Harrison said.

The fire is being called the Wiseman Fire, named after the owner of the property of origination.
