Crops continue to challenge producers at every turn, many if not most, current issues are simply a culmination of this years hot, dry and windy weather conditions. At some point accumulated crop stress will overwhelm the plants ability to hold on. Dr. Bob Nielson (Extension Corn Specialist, Purdue University) presented me with a good analogy; “the crops ability to cope with stress is like a roller coaster, once you break over the top and start down there is nothing you can do to stop it.” Some of our remaining crops are very near the top, some are on the way down and some have yet to get on the roller coaster.
