The Clovis Wildcats, beset by injuries to key seniors, relied on a pair of sophomores, a junior and a solid defense to take a 26-7 win over Eldorado Friday night.
Junior Jonathan Johnson rushed 25 times for 186 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Wildcats (2-0), and sophomore quarterback Dakotah Yandell kept the ship running when senior quarterbacks Tre Orozco and Justin Graham each went out with first-half injuries.
Kamal Kass added 54 yards on seven carries and the “nail in the coffin” touchdown, an 8-yard burst up the middle with 7:06 to play.
The Eagles (1-1), who led early in the third quarter after Josh Russo’s 1-yard run, posted just 126 second-half yards and turned the ball over three times — including a lost fumble by senior quarterback Sam Gentry on a third-and-goal from the Clovis 3.
