A 57-year-old Clovis man is in police custody after police say he stabbed another man early Sunday morning.

James Goodwin Jr. is charged with aggravated battery and possession of drug paraphernalia and is being held in the Curry County Detention Center on a $6,000 cash-only bond.

Gordon Pierce, 53, sustained at least one stab wound to his upper torso and was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, according to Clovis Police Chief Steve Sanders. Pierce was not cooperative with police, Sanders said.

According to Sanders:

• Police were called to 901 Walnut St. at 2:45 Sunday morning for a report of domestic violence.

• Police found Pierce sitting on the ground with his shirt draped over his body, receiving treatment for a stab wound by witnesses at the scene.

• The motive for the stabbing was unknown.
