A Clovis church accepts the adage that girls are growing up faster these days, but officials hope a new tour will help counter some of the unintended consequences.

Secret Keeper Girl LIVE: The Pajama Party tour, is on the road now and will stop Oct. 6 at Central Baptist Church.

“The tour is going to be high energy,” said Jennifer Hollis, Central Baptist Church preschool and children’s minister. “There are going to be fun worship times. It will be very colorful. We don’t often see this quality of a tour here in Clovis so it’s a real honor to be able to have it in Clovis.”

The Secret Keeper Girl LIVE tour is created from books Christian author Dannah Gresh has written that use religion to connect mothers and tween daughters — daughters who face pressures before their teenage years that their mothers never dealt with until high school.

It welcomes girls ages 8-12 with their moms.

“Sometimes moms and daughters have a hard time just talking about things like modesty,” Hollis said. “Moms sometimes feel like maybe they will be the bad guy if ‘everybody else is wearing this,’ or ‘all the other girls are doing that.’ So (the tour is) a time that they’ll really be able to talk about those things and make good decisions using spiritual truths.”

Hollis said the Secret Keeper Girl tour addresses modesty, purity, true beauty and genuine friendships from a biblical standpoint.

“There is an obvious characteristic in girls who have determined to use modesty in their life,” Hollis said, “and if they have already sunk that determination in their heart as a young girl, then probably it’s a decision that will carry through their junior high and high school years, hopefully to help them understand what true beauty is.”

The relationship-building event features skits about meaningful friendships, mother/daughter dialogue, balloon sculptures, confetti cannons, and beach ball competitions. Two fashion shows will highlight the evening.

In a skit called the “Totally Tubular TV Mom’s Show,” for instance, a group of moms will examine the fashion of some of today’s most popular TV moms. In the daughter’s fashion show, five pre-selected Clovis girls will have to pass the “Truth or Bare” fashion test.
