Junior defender Emily Simon scored off a corner kick from freshman forward Alysia Carrasco in the first half on Friday, and the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team held on for a 1-0 Lone Star Conference victory over Texas Woman’s at the ENMU pitch.

The goal, Simon’s third of the season, came in the 27th minute, and the Zias (5-5-3, 3-3-3 LSC) held on from there. Texas Woman’s (1-10-3, 1-8-1) had 14 shots in the contest, but managed only one shot on goal.

ENMU had 11 shots in the match, including three on goal. Freshman midfielder Angela Sandoval had a scoring opportunity two minutes into the first half, but her shot hit the post.

The Zias return to action at noon on Sunday with an LSC home match against Texas A&M-Commerce.
