Zias fall in three at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. — Cameron dominated Eastern New Mexico University at the net Tuesday night and the Aggies cruised to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over the Zias.

Cameron (14-10, 8-8 LSC) had only five attack errors in the match, compared with 22 for the Zias (5-20, 1-15). Kelle Carver recorded 12 kills on 17 attacks for the Aggies, while Adrienne Lawson had nine kills, five total blocks (two solos) and six digs.

The Zias were led by senior middle blocker Kristen Beck with 10 kills and junior outside hitter Amber Durand with nine, while junior Dallas Russell tied with Cameron’s Julisa Ocasio for match honors in digs with 13.

Cameron turned a 1-1 tie into a 7-1 lead in the first game, getting two kills from Malyssa Acton, and led by at least four points the rest of the way. The Zias led 2-0 and 4-3 in the second set before the Aggies took the lead for good with five points, including two aces by Acton.

Cameron erased a 2-1 deficit in Game 3 with six consecutive points, the last three on ENMU attack errors.

The Zias return to action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. LSC matchup against Angelo State at Greyhound Arena.
