Cannon commander approved for promotion

Col. Albert Elton II is a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a command pilot with more than 4,200 flying hours, Air Force officials have said.

Col. Albert Elton II, commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, is among 39 colonels President Obama has approved for promotion to the rank of brigadier general, the Air Force Times reported on its website Monday.

Promotions take effect upon Senate confirmation.

Elton accepted command of Cannon in a July ceremony.

He is a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a command pilot with more than 4,200 flying hours, Air Force officials have said.

He has commanded special operations forces at the squadron and expeditionary group levels and has held several flying and staff positions within Air Force Special Operations Command and United States Special Operations Command.

More than 11 dozen officers assigned to Cannon in its 68-year history have risen to the rank of general.
