A 12-year-old is dead and two other Clovis teens injured after the 2002 Corvette they were riding in left the highway and struck a pole about 3 p.m. Friday near 720 Curry Road 12, Undersheriff Wesley Waller said Saturday.

Waller said Jacob S. Thomson of Clovis died at Plains Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash.

The driver of the car, James Chambers, 16, and another passenger, Nicolas Chambers, 13, both of Clovis, were also taken to PRMC for treatment, Waller said. Their conditions were not known.

Waller said the Corvette was eastbound on CR 12 between CR G and CR H. He said the car traveled through a dip, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle left the highway and stuck a pole used to display a business sign.

Waller declined to provide further information, noting an investigation is continuing.
