R.L. “Rube” Render has announced that he will run for the District 4 Clovis City Commission race.
Render, 69, is a retired project manager with Lockheed Martin and a retired gunnery sergeant with the United States Marine Corps.
“I feel we need to put Clovis back on the track of giving government back to the people,” Render said.
He currently serves on the city’s economic development tax advisory board and the New Mexico State Military Base Planning Commission.
Render is the first challenger to enter the race. Chris Bryant, the incumbent, is also running for the seat.
In 2008, Render was one of six candidates for the open mayor’s position. He finished second behind current Mayor Gayla Brumfield.
The filing date is January 10.
The March 6 election includes the mayor’s race, four commission races, and a ballot question to change the city charter to bar dual service on the Clovis City and Curry County commissions.
