Tuesday morning briefing: Talent in Texico and Beatlemania sweeps America

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Tuesday briefing.

Movie for teens

The teen program at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Portales Public Library is the movie “Real Steel.”

The movie and the popcorn are free.

Talent show

The Texico “In The Clear” talent show is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Texico High School, 520 N. Griffin St.

Kitchen tip

When making pancakes grease the pan for the first cake. After that rub a piece of raw potato over hot griddle instead of greasing. The cakes brown nicely and there will be no smoke.

On this day in 1964, Pan Am Yankee Clipper flight 101 from London Heathrow lands at New York’s Kennedy Airport and “Beatlemania” arrives.

Two days later, Paul McCartney, age 21, Ringo Starr, 23, John Lennon, 23, and George Harrison, 20, made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
