A fire that gutted Clovis Apartments and displaced 12 families Feb. 1 was ruled accidental by the Clovis fire marshal.
“The fire originated in the attic space above apartments 93 and 95 of Building 8 and was not intentionally set,” Fire Marshal Allan Silvers said in a press release.
Silvers said the purpose of the fire marshal’s investigation was to determine whether the fire was intentional or accidental, not to determine a specific cause.
Silvers said fire investigators made their determination using eyewitness testimony, fire scene and fire pattern examination and the National Fire Protection Association’s scientific method to determine how the fire moved through the structure.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, the release said.
The investigation was turned over Tuesday to the Clovis Apartments insurance investigators.
