Press release: Ute Water Pipeline Project receives federal dollars

The Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority (ENMWUA) would like to applaud the Obama Administration and our New Mexico Congressional Delegation for their efforts to allocate approximately $3 million towards the construction of the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Project. The United States Bureau of Reclamation has announced that $1 million is dedicated towards this important project from funds made available in their fiscal year 2012 budget. In addition, President Obama submitted his fiscal year 2013 Budget to Congress which includes an additional $1.978 million totaling $2.978 million dollars.

These announcements are coming on the heels of last year's Phase I groundbreaking of the Expanded Diversion (Intake) Structure at Ute Reservoir. Pending final property acquisition and awarding of construction contracts, actual construction could begin as early as the Spring of 2012.

This marks another major milestone for the project. ENMWUA Chairwoman Gayla Brumfield states that, "This is great news and we are very thankful for this funding. The federal government's participation is essential to making the Ute Pipeline Project a reality for our area residents. We are continuing to make a great deal of progress and we won't stop until this project is completed."
