Press release: Clovis police looking for ‘person of interest’

Clovis – March 8, 2012 – On Friday, March 2, 2012, at approximately 4:49 PM, Clovis Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Mabry, in the hotel parking lot, on a report of shots being fired. Information was given there were two vehicles in the area where the gunshots were heard.

Officers responded to the scene to find the two vehicles had left the area. Officers did locate evidence a shooting took place.

At approximately 5:20 PM, Clovis Police Dispatch received a 911 emergency call for the 1300 block of Axtell on a report of a shooting victim.

Officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to find twenty-six year old Jerry Abeyta with gunshot wounds to his chest. Officers quickly identified Mr. Abeyta as the driver of a vehicle which was involved in the shooting incident on Mabry Drive.

The incident is under investigation by the Clovis Police Special

Operations Unit. Detectives have identified Mr. Abel G. Vega, 29 years of age, as a “person of interest.” Detectives have not been able to locate Mr. Vega at this time. Detectives believe Mr. Vega was present at the time of the shooting and may have information critical to the case.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Vega or information as how they can contact him.
