Family’s dogs returned

A Clovis family who lost a pair of Schnauzers Tuesday night — its only connection to their late son — got them back Friday evening.

The dogs, Page and Bella, got away from the Thomson family when the gate came unhinged. The family, who had recently lost 12-year-old Jacob to a vehicle accident in September, asked for community help through the Clovis News-Journal.

"We got a phone call Friday afternoon," said Mechelle Thomson," Jacob's mother. "They had seen the paper, and they had the dogs. They called us and brought them over to us."

The family was thankful to the couple for returning the dogs and to numerous Clovis residents for joining in the search for Page and Bella. Page, a rescue dog, kept Jacob entertained when his cystic fibrosis kept him from playing outside, and sat in Jacob's spot on the couch whenever he wasn't around.

A group of pediatric nurses is organizing a benefit 5K run May 5, and the family is selling bracelets to pay for a scholarship in Jacob's name. Information can be found by looking up "Be the Victor" on Facebook.
