The Asbury Ringers of First United Methodist Church will be performing "An Evening of English Handbells" 6 p.m. Sunday in the church's Sanctuary, 1501 Sycamore St.
The choir is comprised of Janet Barnard, Alison Brown, Becky Ingram, Nedra Isbell, Cherrie Hayden, Cindy Blair, Jim Elyce Wade, Cindy Speck, Connie Williams, Rose Ellen Dunn, Verna Williams, Kathy Adair and Jenise Vander Dussen. Ken McDonald directs the choir.
The ladies will be ringing a challenging program, including pieces by such composers as Cynthia Dobrinski, Barbara Kinyon, Anna Laura Page, Frances Callahan, Martha Lynn Thompson, Diane Bish, Valerie Stephenson, Kevin McChesney, Michael Helman, Mary Kay Parrish and Linda McKechnie. Some of the highlights include a handbell processional on "A Festive Intrada" by Cynthia Dobrinski, the hymn "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken" scored for handbells and accompanied by FUMC organist Ferrell Roberts, and Mary Kay Parrish's setting of "Surely the Lord Is In This Place" scored for handbells and vocal choir.
This concert will conclude the 2011-2012 musical season for the Asbury Ringers.
