Local dairy owners honored

Steve and Cheri Hanson, owners of El Dorado Dairy in Clovis, have been named 2012 Members of Distinction by their milk marketing cooperative, Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.

The program recognizes members who excel on their operations in their communities and in the industry, according to a DFA release. Seven member farms — one from each DFA area — are selected for the honor, with El Dorado representing the Southwest Area.

While designing the dairy, Steve and sons Derrell, Darren and Devin, focused on the effect the barn and parlor would have on cows and the work environment, with the effect being higher-quality milk from the herd.

The family also, according to the release, makes donations of food, supplies and money to an orphanage in Mexico.
