ROSWELL — Roswell Goddard opened by winning two tight games and the Lady Coyotes went on to beat Clovis High 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 on Thursday night.
CHS coach Gabe Apodaca said he wasn't that disappointed in his team's performance after the Lady Wildcats (5-6) lost handily in three sets at Class 1A three-time state champion Tatum on Tuesday.
"It was a pretty even match," Apodaca said. "It was a good match for us coming off a disappointing match against Tatum.
"They had a lot of balls that kind of fell their way, but we had good intensity throughout the match."
Senior Riley Petner, junior Sydney Romero and sophomore Danni Williams each collected seven kills for the Lady Cats, while Romero and Williams had four blocks apiece. Junior Andrea Aguilar added 21 digs and a team-high three aces.
It's the second year in a row Clovis has lost at Goddard.
"They have a young team, but they played very well," he said.
Apodaca said the Lady Cats eliminated a lot of the hitting errors that plagued them at Tatum, but they couldn't overcome 12 service errors.
"That was a big factor," he said. "We'd been serving the ball well, but it just didn't go for us tonight."
Clovis returns to Roswell next Thursday for a match against Roswell High.
