The Texico Wolverines scored a touchdown and a 2-point conversion with six seconds left Thursday night to edge the Clovis High junior varsity 28-27 at Leon Williams Stadium.
Texico (4-0) opened a 20-7 lead midway through the third quarter, but the Wildcats (2-2) rebounded for an 8-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jordan Holguin and two 1-yard TD runs by Jaquan Franklin.
Texico took over near the Clovis 35 after forcing the Cats to punt out of their own end zone and used up most of the remaining time. J.J. Tuls got the touchdown from 2 yards out and Rallin Harris, after coming out of kick formation as the holder, delivered the conversion pass to Adrian Gomez.
"It was a hard-fought game," Wolverines coach Ryan Autrey said. "I thought the Clovis kids played hard, and that's why we come over here. They made us better."
The Wolverines finished with a 333-222 edge in total yardage, includng 256 yards on the ground. Shay Harrison carried 30 times for 189 yards for Texico, while Tuls had 12 catches for 60 yards.
