Club notes – Sept. 30

Encanto Garden Club

September's Encanto Garden Club meeting started with a short report of the Curry County Fair flower show the club sponsors every year. The flower show received more entries this year than last, with the consensus that the weather was somewhat better considering the heat in the later part of the summer. One entry that did not fare well was the rose. Many of the public stated that their roses did not do well in the heat this year. We were very delighted that the coolers were fuller with entries in the adult and junior divisions. Our judges this year were Traci Franklin from Traci's Greenhouse and Charles Guthals from Guthals Nursery. It was an informative and fun day of judging for all involved.

Our next meeting will be 9:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at Muffley's Back Room. Anybody interested in joining or attending a meeting is welcome. Contact Jacque Wuest at 762-6955.

Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary

The Sept. 19 general meeting of the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary was hosted by the hospital at Golden Acres. A delicious meal by the cafeteria staff and the hospital Fun Committee was served to the 38 members attending. President Linda Uttaro opened the meeting with prayer.

The minutes were accepted as read. Rosalie Patrick was elected to serve out the term of Peggy Jones, who resigned Aug. 1 as treasurer. President Uttaro presented awards of 100 hour pins to Frona Jones and Dorothy Glover, Star Performer pin to Rita Gonzales and Special Person pin to Faye Fenton. The funeral of red coat Al Bettina was announced for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Catholic church. Auxiliary jackets are to be worn. Jim Gordon, long time red coat member, is ill in the Clovis hospital.

Two members, LaDoris Good and Pam Wortham were introduced and welcomed.
