Police: Tucumcari city commissioner dies from gunshot wound

New Mexico State Police are investigating the shooting death of Tucumcari City Commissioner Daniel Lopez.

Officials said police found Lopez in his Tucumcari home at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, injured by a gunshot. He later died at Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.

State Police Capt. Jimmy Glascock said circumstances surrounding Lopez's death remain under investigation but officials are not searching for a suspect.

Lopez was a former state police captain stationed in Tucumcari and a former chief of the Tucumcari Police Department. Lopez was elected District 3 city commissioner in March.
