Hounds getting ready for Green & Silver tilt

BLACKWATER DRAW — The Eastern New Mexico University football team is winding toward its annual Green & Silver spring game, set for 10 a.m. next Saturday, and second-year coach Josh Lynn likes what he is seeing.

The Greyhounds went through a two-hour scrimmage on Friday at Greyhound Stadium, and Lynn said the defense was impressive.

"I'm really pleased with how our defense played and flew around tonight," he said. "It was probably as good an effort as we've seen from our defense this year."

The Hounds intercepted three passes, two by junior cornerback Darrelyn McCloud.

Offensively, Lynn said the Hounds want to improve their ground attack this year. He said they ran the ball well in the scrimmage, but struggled throwing it.

With Wes Wood graduating after three years as ENMU's quarterback, there's a three-way battle going on for the position between Ryan Green, Jeremy Burma and Jacob Jameson, all of whom will be sophomores.

"We had some formation-type penalties that kind of hurt us, but it's good to get those things called now," Lynn said, noting that the scrimmage was played with officials.

The Hounds will have their final spring practices on Monday and Tuesday, then lift weights the next two days. Lynn said the team plans to have a draft for next weekend's game.
