Hounds favored to repeat in LSC cross country

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team has been picked to capture its third consecutive Lone Star Conference championship in a preseason poll released by the conference office on Thursday.

ENMU received 16 of 20 first-place votes and earned 129 points in balloting done by conference coaches and sports information directors, plus selected media.

West Texas A&M, which earned one first-place vote, was second in the poll with 116 points. Tarleton State claimed the other three first-place tallies and finished third with 107 points.

Defending champion West Texas A&M drew the nod on the women’s side, collecting 12 first-place votes and 130 points to Midwestern State’s seven and 124, respectively. Angelo State (1, 93) was third while ENMU came in fourth with 76 points.

Seven men’s and women’s teams are competing in the league this season. The postseason begins with the LSC championships, which ENMU will host on Oct. 26.
