ROSWELL — Junior midfielder Ashley Gallagher scored two first-half goals and Clovis High’s soccer girls got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over Roswell High on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats (7-3) bounced back from a loss to Roswell Goddard on Saturday which snapped their six-game winning streak. Junior Shelby Jones made 10 saves in goal for the Lady Cats and had her bid for a shutout come to an end when Samantha Sanchez scored in the 78th minute for the Lady Coyotes (6-8).

“We played better,” CHS coach Traci Sievers said. “Our pressure in the midfielder was better and we did a better job of playing moving the ball though midfield. We were more aggressive taking shots and we finished better.”

Gallagher put the Lady Cats in front in the ninth minute, then converted on a pass by freshman Emily Chappelear late in the half for a 2-0 cushion.

Senior Carrie Sharp picked up an additional goal about six minutes into the second half.

The Lady Cats travel to Albuquerque this weekend for a four-team tournament hosted by Sandia Prep.
