PORTALES, N.M. — With the 1,454th overall pick in the Major League Baseball entry draft, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Kevin Thompson (Sr., IF/OF, La Cañada, Calif./La Cañada HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team. The choice was made in the 48th round and the versatile former Greyhound is listed as a shortstop.
Thompson started 125 games over four seasons for the Hounds and posted a .302 batting average. On March 29, 2011, he hit for the cycle in a win at University of the Southwest with a pair of runs batted in. In the opening game of Thompson’s final doubleheader as a Greyhound, he drove a walk-off single to centerfield, to lift ENMU to a 9-8 win over Northeastern State.
Over his career, Thompson played shortstop, third base, left field and designated hitter for the Greyhounds and registered 35 multiple-hit games.
