Second baseman Garrett Cook went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, helping Eastern New Mexico University to a 7-3 win over East Central for a split of Friday’s Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Greyhound Field.
The Tigers claimed the opener 6-3.
Cook’s triple, his third of the season, came with one-out in the first inning to score Jeremy Johnson, who led off with a double.
Cook later scored on a groundout by first baseman Seth Clabaugh, and added RBIs on a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a single in the eighth inning.
The Greyhounds (21-22, 16-18 LSC) collected 13 hits off Tiger starter Chasen Bennett with four extra-base hits.
Ismael Solis scattered six hits over eight innings, allowing two runs with four strikeouts and two walks.
Jared Owen went 2-for-4 for East Central (12-30, 11-23).
In the first game, the Tigers wiped out a pair of Greyhound leads with two-run efforts in three consecutive innings.
The Tigers tied the score in the fourth on a sacrifice bunt by rightfielder Dusty Rowland and led 2-1 on a throwing error that allowed Tyler Gillum to score.
The Greyhounds retook the lead in the bottom of the inning as Johnson hit an RBI triple and scored on a Cook single, but Eastern was held scoreless on three hits the rest of the way.
The teams meet again today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
