DORA — Firefighters have contained a grass fire on private land east of Dora that charred 935 acres and burned a house and a barn.

State Forestry Division spokesman Dan Ware says the burned acreage was reduced from an earlier estimate of 1,500 acres due to more accurate mapping.

An investigator with New Mexico State Forestry is on the scene to try and determine the cause of the Garrison 30 Fire.

The fire broke out Thursday. High winds, with gusts of up to 47 mph, hampered efforts to fight the blaze. By Thursday night, the fire’s spread was stopped and it was declared 100 percent contained.

Ware said no injuries were reported.
