Eastern New Mexico University Police Chief Ray Chambers is retiring after 26 years, according to a press release issued today.
ENMU President Steven Gamble said a new chief is expected to be named by July 1.
"We are grateful to Chief Chambers for his many years of service," said Gamble. "He has been a true professional, and we will miss his leadership. We are glad that we will still have his services for a few more months during the transition to a new chief."
Chambers originally worked for ENMU in 1978 as a patrolman, then worked for the Portales Police Department from 1978-84. He returned as chief of ENMU University Police in 1984.
Chambers, a retired Air Force veteran, has associate's and bachelor's degrees from ENMU in criminal justice. His professional memberships include the New Mexico State Police Mounted Patrol and Fraternal Order of Police.
