Rib Crib Barbecue in Clovis is lending a helping hand to the family of 6-year-old Harley Pena, who is fighting a rare combination of two types of acute leukemia.
On Wednesday, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of its profits made from 4-10 p.m. to the Pena family.
Manager Tommy Cardonita said the restaurant’s district manager is a friend of the Penas. The staff had a meeting and decided to help the family.
“We know its hard when that kind of thing happens. We figure we can do something for them,” he said.
When Harley and her parents visited the store, the staff’s heart went out to the child.
“I felt like crying,” Cardonita said. “But you can’t, you know. You’ve got to be strong for her.”
