Fairfield Extension Club

Fairfield Extension Club met Feb. 13 at the First Christian Church at 10 a.m.

Host was Jean Harding.

Amy Armenta called the meeting to order with 16 members present. Sharon Ragland showed a baby quilt and a western chimes.

Huggie bears were stuffed.

Door prizes were won by Mary Winkles and Martha Watkins.

Next meeting is Friday.


Clovis Education Association

The Clovis Education Association met Feb. 10 at James Bickley Elementary with Molly Smith as host.

Smith, local president, called the meeting to order. She provided members with hand-outs pertaining to educational issues before the state legislature. Members were encouraged to contact local legislators via e-mail. Members were encouraged to support sufficient funding for public schools.

Members were encouraged to participate in Reading Across America activities on March 2.

Smith gave out information on the upcoming NEA-New Mexico 2009 ESP conference to be held in Las Cruces on April 17-18.

The next meeting is 4 p.m. Mar. 10 at Yucca Middle School.


Claud Rainy Day Extension Club

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club met Feb. 11 with Reba Camp for the afternoon. Betty  Mobley presided at the business meeting. Lois Hollinsworth read the previous minutes. Joan Ewing and Judy Gambill gave the treasurer’s report. A card was read from Lola Starbuck thanking the club for attention during her recent hospital stay.

Jewelry making classes and club exchange meetings were discussed. A reminder of the Immunization Training Feb. 19 brought discussion of various recent illnesses and allergies to medications, especially sulfa and bactrin. The hostess served delicious snacks and drinks to the twelve members present.

The next meeting is 10 a.m. Wednesday Muffley’s Back Door with hostesses Marcy Kos, Lois Hollinsworth and Lucille Johnson.


Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met Feb. 12 at Trinity Luthern Church with 12 members present. President Sheryl Abdill called the meeting to order. June Phillips read the minutes. Dorothy Bean gave the treasurers report.

The revised club by-laws were handed out.

Plans were finalized for hosting the domino tournament on Monday.

Following a potluck meal hosted by Sandra Stalcup and June Phillips the group exchanged Valentine cards and displayed homemade boxes.

A quilt started at the Creative Crayons program last month was on display. This was made for club member Robbie Wicker, who has been ill.

Food was collected for the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico.

Curry County Extension Club

The Curry County Extension Clubs held a jewelry-making workshop Tuesday at the extension office. LaNell Leatherwood of Grady helped the group make bracelets and shared information on making necklaces and where to get supplies. Each participant left with a finished bracelet. Encanto Garden Club

The Encanto Garden Club Founders Day luncheon was hosted by Coral Whitaker on Feb. 11 at the China Star. As the most senior member, she shared that the club was organized in 1961. New officers were installed to serve during the coming year. The officers elected are: Jacque Wuest, President; Narcie Tucker, vice president; Ruth Burns, treasurer; and Jane Rybolt, secretary.

Old business consisted of summarization of the garden information presented in January by the owner of  Garden Source of Portales. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Barbara Voges gave treasurer’s report due to the absence of Ruth Burns.

New business included the decision to collect membership dues in January. The next meeting will be held at Retirement Ranch in the chapel. It will hosted by BJ Goodwin and Jane Rybolt. Meeting time will  be 9:30 a.m. March 11 and members were asked to bring finger foods for refreshments.
