Clovis BPO Does
The Clovis BPO Does No. 108 held a public ceremony on Jan. 17 at the Elks Lodge to install new officers for 2009.
Bea Martel served as deputy supreme installing president and Linda Catanzaro served as deputy installing conductor. Kaye Parrish was the installing chaplin and the installing musician was marsh shade.
Among the 20 officers installed was Raynette Barker as the 2009 president.
Sammye May was recognized as the 2008 Doe of the Year. Derek Bennett was recognized as the 2008 honorary Doe of the Year.
Guest speaker for the event was Keith Barker, Past District Deputy NMSE. The ceremony was witnessed by the Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Terri Rhue, past exalted rulers, other Elk dignitaries, and Doe family members and friends.
Llano Estacado Quilt Guild
The Llano Estacado Quilt Guild sponsored a six-hour workshop on Jan. 31 with 16 people participating. J. Michelle Watts from Roswell, a nationally known teacher, pattern designer and fabric designer taught the class.
The group started making the “Ojo de Dios” or “Eye of God” wall hanging using a 9-degree wedge ruler. They learned the importance of making an accurate and consistent 1/4” seam allowance to be able to construct this project.
