Editor’s Note: The following list covers the next three years of projects at the base, totaling $154.4 million. Total construction costs are estimated at $536 million through 2015.


Fiscal year 2008

• Project: Airmen’s Center

Estimated completion: June

Estimated cost: $10 million

Purpose: Center includes a new dining facility, recreation center and a post office.


• Project: Fuels storage area

Estimated completion: February

Estimated cost: $12.3 million

Purpose: Repairs to fuel storage tanks, upgrades to fuel loading area.

 

• Project: MC-130 flight simulators

Estimated completion: February 2010

Estimated cost: $8 million

Purpose: Two MC-130 flight simulators, along with supporting classrooms. Each simulator normally trains five aircrew members at one time (pilot, co-pilot, engineer and two navigators) with one simulator operator.

 

• Project: MC-130 washrack

Estimated completion: October

Estimated cost: $1.6 million

Purpose: Provides a safe working environment to wash down larger aircraft.

 

 

Fiscal year 2009 projects

Editor’s Note: The Air Force has not disclosed individual costs of projects still available for bid to protect the integrity of the bidding process. The remaining projects come at an estimated cost of $122.5 million.


• Project: CV-22 flight simulators

Estimated completion: 2010

Purpose: Simulator will provide two CV-22 flight simulators, along with supporting classrooms. Crew sizes for CV-22 squadrons are still being determined by the Air Force.

 

• Project: Maintenance Hangar

Estimated completion: 2012

Purpose: New hangar will be sized to fit two MC-130 aircraft.

 

• Project: Child Development Center

Estimated completion: 2010

Purpose: The project will add an additional 25,600 square feet to the current CDC, and alter existing space to allow for the care of twice as many children as the current CDC serves. Cannon Public Affairs will not release numbers for children the current CDC serves.

 


Fiscal year 2010 projects

• Project: Consolidated Communications Center

Estimated completion: 2011

Purpose: New building combines three outdated and

overcrowded communications facilities.

 


Fiscal year 2011 projects

• Project: MC-130 Squadron Operations Center

Estimated completion: 2012

Purpose: Construction of new office and training/planning spaces for a MC-130 squadron.

 

• Project: UAV Squadron Operations Center

Estimated completion: 2012

Purpose: Construction of new office and training/planning spaces for a UAV squadron.


• Project: Corrosion control/fuel cell hangar

Estimated completion: 2012

Purpose: New hangar will allow for specialized aircraft

maintenance.
