Chaparral Extension Club
The Chaparral Extension Club met Jan. 8 at Trinity Luthern Church with 12 members present. President Sheryl Abdill called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered with New Years Resolutions. June Philips read “I Wish You a Happy Healthy New Year.” Dorothy Bean gave the treasurers report.
A thank you letter was read from Eastern New Mexico Food Bank.
A report was given on the council meeting.
Hostesses were set up for the next couple of months. The leader training on crayon applique was discussed with the group planning to do a project at the next meeting.
Hostesses for the potluck meal were Jeanetta Mesner and Sheryl Abdill. The group stuffed 22 support bears to be taken to the hospital.

Fairfield
Fairfield met on Jan. 9, 2009, at Marie Wells home.
Sharon Ragland and Amy Arment showed a book pattern with yo-yos around the edge of a place mat. Sharon showed a crochet daily and Amy showed a crocheted hat and purse.
Jonice Prescott reported on leader training. Secret pal names were drawn. New officers were sworn in and Jonice Prescott is the new president.
11 members and 2 visitors attended.
Lunch was soup and cornbread with each person bringing a can of vegetables to go in the soup.
The next meeting date will be Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Extension Building.
Encanto Garden Club
The January meeting of the Encanto Garden Club was held at the home of Wilma Sartain, who served a selection of sweet and savory delicacies. Two guests attending were Donna Whitfield and Theresa Downing.
President Barbara Voges called the meeting to order and Secretary Jayne Rybolt read the minutes. She gave a report of the recent trip to the Apple Shack in Farwell where the group was treated to a tour of the facilities and given information about the cultivation, processing and marketing of the apples.
Ruth Burns gave the treasurer’s report and provided the information that donations had been made to the Food Bank and the Arbor Day Foundation.
Wilma introduced Curt Jaynes, owner of the Garden Source in Portales, who gave a program on the care of both indoor and outdoor plants and the various products to aid in their health and growth. He answered questions from the group about problems with their plants.
Jaynes also discussed his new building and greenhouse which is now being constructed and should be ready by the spring of 2010.
Door prizes were won by Bess Kilne and Elsie Dean.
The next meeting will be hosted by B.J. Goodwin on Feb. 10. Visitors are welcome. For information, call Jacque Wuest at 762-6955.
Clovis Quilter’s Club
The Clovis Quilter’s met Jan. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church with 21 members present. President Brenda Harpold called the meeting to order and passed around sign up sheets. Beth Franks furnished the block of the month.
The next Llano Estacado Quilt Guild will be held on Jan. 24, it will be a potluck with the group working on charity quilts. The Michelle Watts workshop will be on Jan. 31 at the Memorial Building in Portales.
Amy Armenta presented the idea for the mystery quilt. Show and tell items were shared.
Brenda Harpold demonstrated how to make pot holders using Kay Woods “ View & Do Hexagon” templates.
June Phillips won the charity plus blocks and Tina Remeraz won the fat quarters.
