Portales' Wendel Sloan, who works for Eastern New Mexico University, responding to a question about four-day work weeks for those employed by public entities:
"A resounding yes! Most employees would actually be more productive by working four 10-hour days per week instead of five eight-hour days because it takes a certain amount of time to read the Clovis and Portales papers each morning before getting into a work groove.
"Although many Republicans think that global warming is just a vast left-wing conspiracy, the savings in gas and, consequently, in our environment would make at least a small New Mexico contribution to reversing this trend and leaving a better Earth to future generations (provided an asteroid does not wipe us out in the meantime -- but, of
course, that would be just another left-wing conspiracy).
"The only downside to a 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. four-day work week is that Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett would have to re-record ‘It's Five o'clock Somewhere' for honky tonk jukeboxes in Republican strongholds across the state."
