Firefighters from two Roosevelt County agencies were called to a structure fire in Arch around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The fire, in a loading warehouse at Glen’s Peanuts on the east side of Arch, destroyed commodity peanuts, pallets and other items valued at an estimated $57,500, according to Arch Fire Chief Hugh Frank. The fire also did an estimated $25,000 of damage to the building, he said.
Frank said an employee noticed the blaze inside the building shortly after it ignited. At that time flames were reported 10 feet high. When firefighters arrived on scene no flames were visible outside of the building but smoke was coming from the metal structure.
Arch responded with three trucks and an ambulance along with nine personnel. The Portales Fire Department sent one truck and two people in mutual aid.
Frank said firemen were at the scene until shortly before 7 p.m.
