Preliminary autopsy results indicate drowning as the cause of death of a Clovis teen and a Clovis firefighter who died last month at a Texas lake, officials said.

Tyler Fontenot, 17, and his uncle, Joe Haseloff, 49, of Farwell, disappeared May 30 while on a fishing trip at Lake Brownwood in central Texas.

Their bodies were discovered two days later.

Lake Brownwood patrolman Bob Pacatte said a final autopsy report has not been completed.

Pacette said an investigation into the deaths has shown no indication of boat trouble or a crash.

Pacette said a witness reported seeing the two in their boat the evening of May 30 and said they were battling wind and choppy water and, “they were taking a pretty good beating.”

Fontenot and Haseloff’s life vests were found in the boat, Pacatte said.
