FFA students honored

Three local FFA members were awarded proficiency and state star awards during the 80th annual New Mexico FFA state convention June 2-4 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, according to a NMSU press release.

• Melissa Freitas of Texico won the agriculture services proficiency award.

• Ryan Best of Elida received the star in production agriculture.

• Tell Runyan of Melrose was named the star greenhand in production.

 

Head Start taking applications

The Texas Migrant Council Head Start program is accepting applications for their 2008 season, according to a council press release.

The program, which runs from Monday to Dec. 19, is free and accepts children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years old.
