A 27-year-old Fort Sumner woman who crashed her vehicle on a rural Curry County road early Tuesday morning while fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy is in jail on multiple charges, according to the sheriff’s department.
Petra Lechuga Lucero is charged with aggravated DWI, aggravated fleeing a peace officer, reckless driving and other traffic violations, Undersheriff Wesley Waller said.
She is being held without bond at the Curry County Detention Center on a warrant out of Alamogordo for aggravated battery on a household member with a deadly weapon, he said.
Waller said Lucero failed to stop at a stop sign about 1 a.m. at the intersection of Brady Avenue and Hull Street.
A deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. The deputy decided to discontinue pursuit as Lucero’s vehicle reached a speed of about 80 mph. The deputy saw Lucero turned south on Curry Road K and came upon her crashed vehicle shortly thereafter.
Lucero was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and upon her release, was taken to the detention center, Waller said.
