All told, 252 players were drafted by NFL teams over the last two days. Clovis' Joey Garcia was not one of them.

Garcia, a 6'2", 212-pound safety who led Texas Tech in tackles last season, was hopeful he would hear his name called among the seven rounds.

No Texas Tech player was selected.

This doesn't mean Garcia, a 2003 Clovis High grad, has no shot at the league. One needs only look to 2005, when 2001 Clovis grad Hank Baskett III didn't hear his name announced. He signed a free-agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings, got traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and now he's a veteran receiver bringing Eagles teammates into Rock Staubus Gymnasium for charity basketball games.
