PORTALES — Catcher Miguel Moctezuma and center fielder Dean McIntyre combined to go 12-for-21 at the top of Central Oklahoma’s lineup Saturday and the Bronchos posted a 9-7, 13-4 sweep of Eastern New Mexico University in a Lone Star Conference baseball doubleheader at Greyhound Field.
Moctezuma’s RBI single broke a 6-6 tie in the sixth inning of the opener. He also had a two-run double in the Bronchos’ three-run fourth.
Lance Phillips (1-1) worked 4 1/3 innings of two-hit relief for Central Oklahoma (31-18, 22-15 LSC), while Aaron Chong pitched the ninth for his seventh save and second of the series.
Central Oklahoma scored 10 runs in the final three innings of the seven-inning nightcap to break away from a 3-3 tie. Shortstop Michael Pollock drove in six runs, including a bases-loaded triple during a five-run sixth.
Four pitchers combined on a four-hitter. The Hounds (21-25, 14-21)wiped out a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Sean Cruce, a run-scoring triple by Tyler Hayes and a sacrifice fly by Freddy Carmona, but they were held in check the rest of the way.
Montezuma went 4-for-5 from his leadoff spot, while McIntyre finished 3-for-5 and scored four times. First baseman Breck Draper drove in three runs.
Ismael Solis (3-6) kept the Bronchos in check from the second through the fifth before Central Oklahoma erupted for three runs. ENMU got one back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Hayes, but the Bronchos sent 10 men to the plate in the sixth in putting the game out of reach with five runs.
Central Oklahoma finished the g ame with 19 hits, including 14 off Solis in 5 1/3 innings. Six Bronchos had at least two hits.
The teams will finish off their four-game series with a 1 p.m. contest today.
