Wayland Baptist University Dean Gary Mitchell reports a Wayland student has been named “Student Teacher of the Year” by the state.
Mitchell said Jimmy Marez, a student teacher at Clovis’ Sandia Elementary School, will be honored Saturday at the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell campus.

Eastern New Mexico University is establishing an Educators Hall of Honor.
The first class will be inducted during Homecoming ceremonies Oct. 24-25.
The purpose is to “honor education alumni who have achieved the highest level of success in their careers, as well as demonstrated exceptional character, and commitment to community service,” according to the ENMU Foundation newsletter.

Carolyn Curd of Texico passes along this information about former Major League Baseball player and manager Mike Hargrove:
His family lived next door to hers in Texico for a few months in 1959, she said.
Curd said the Hargroves attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis. She believes Mike’s father, Dudley, was working for a grain elevator in Farwell.
Mike Hargrove was the American League’s Rookie of the Year in 1974 when he played for the Texas Rangers. He managed two Cleveland Indians teams to World Series appearances.
