LUBBOCK — Sophomore Diedra Brown captured Eastern New Mexico University’s lone event win in Saturday’s Red Raider Relays at Texas Tech, taking women’s javelin competition with a throw of 123 feet, 5 inches.
The top finish for the ENMU men came from junior Derek Henio, who placed second in the 10,000 in a time of 35 minutes, 40.45 seconds.
Laurel Herrera placed fifth in women’s javelin at 98-1. Meantime, the Zias took a 3-5-6 finish in the 1,500 with Krystal Becenti finishing in 5:27.09, Theresa Chacon coming in at 5:46.71 and Veronia Laufer posting a time of 6:03.15.
Sophomore Hannah Rhoten placed fifth in women’s triple jump at 35-3 1/4, while the Zias’ 400 relay team of Christina Garza, Britney Stephens, Vanessa O’Neal and Conitra Olison was fourth with a time of 51.05.
The men’s team scored double places in three events. In addition to Henio’s performance, Kennedy Baiywo was fifth in the 10,000 in a time of 36:18.46.
Meantime, Steven Aragon was third in javelin at 194-7 and Robert Griego fifth at 177-7, while Kyle Harris finished third at 46-3 1/4 in triple jump and Karthick Srimanoharan fifth at 43-3 3/4.
The ENMU track squads return to action on Saturday in Adams State’s Travis McKinley Open at Alamosa, Colo.
