Safety important in Cyber Monday online shopping
Published: Saturday, November 24th, 2007
Instead of waking up in the early hours of the morning on Black Friday to fight the mobs, shoppers can take their business online Monday.
Retailers, such as Sears and Barnes and Noble, will offer promotions Monday geared toward anyone with a credit or charge card and access to the Internet, according to a National Retailers Association press release.
Called Cyber Monday, the event started when online retailers noticed in 2005 an increase in online shopping, according the release.
Here are a few online shopping safety tips:
— Check the shopping Web site’s privacy policy.
— Factor in shipping and handling costs to the total price of your purchase.
— Save a paper copy of Internet transactions, including product descriptions and prices.
— Do not e-mail financial information. Legitimate companies don’t ask for financial information via e-mail.
— Know exactly what you’re buying and confirm the seller’s physical address and phone number.
