This morning’s snowfall was just the beginning of a wintry weekend, according to the National Weather Service. By Saturday, 1 to 4 inches of snow are expected fall in Curry, Roosevelt and De Baca counties with similar conditions expected through the Texas Panhandle. Residents on Friday woke to flurries and freezing winds with temperatures in the upper 20s, but by mid-morning the snow had stopped falling. Clovis Fire Department Lt. Montie Powell said there was an early-morning vehicle crash due to slick roads but no serious injuries. “The most problems we’ve had have been people slipping and falling,” he said. While there may be more flurries throughout the afternoon Friday, the intensity of snowfall is expected to increase late Friday night and through Saturday, a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service in Albuquerque said. Sunday there is a slight chance of snow showers but Monday warm weather is expected to return with sunshine and highs in the 50s. Powell cautioned residents to stay in if conditions worsen over the weekend. “Be careful. If you’ve got stuff at home where you don’t have to get out, don’t.
